Charles Pene 1949 - 2004

Charles was a Hamilton Island institution, he first came to Hamilton Island 25 years ago when, as he puts it, "they were still using it as a farm". In the early days he was the face of Catseye Beach hiring out catamarans and sailboards to island guests, but in later years he became best known as Charlie the bus driver, the smiling face that greeted guests at the airport, especially paddlers arriving each year to compete.

There are 3 "F" words we use in life never fully appreciating their meaning. These "F" words cost nothing but are a countries ransom. If you are lucky to possess one "F" word you have riches untold.

The first "F" is Faith.
The second "F" is Friendships.
The third "F" is Family (or Whanau, family in Maori)
